Golf Foundation Starter Centre
The Epping Golf Course is an accredited Starter Centre with the Golf Foundation, the National Body for the Development of Junior Golf.
The aims of the organisation are:
To provide support for golf sessions at schools and golf facilities so that young people are given their first introduction to golf.
To encourage young people to take up the game, develop their playing skills, improve their understanding of the game and work towards the achievement of a playing handicap.
To provide competitive opportunities for performance motivated youngsters.
The Golf Foundation provides funding towards lessons for Junior Golfers, who are aged 18 or under and in full time education. To be eligible they must agree to take part in the Merit Award Scheme, attending Saturday lessons regularly and maintaining a record of progress in a booklet provided for the purpose.
The Merit Award Scheme comprises 18 levels within 6 awards of different colours - Red, Blue, Green, Bronze, Silver, Gold. The scheme is intended to give young golfers the incentive and opportunity to
Learn and improve their skills
Understand the Rules of the Game
Improve golf course play
Acquire a handicap
Saturday lessons are provided by Professional Golfer WARREN SERGEANT &
GARETH WILLIAMS There are four sessions each lasting an hour, between 10am and 2pm. Each session can accommodate 12 juniors. The charge is £2.50 per person per lesson, to be paid in advance at the start of each month. Or £45 per quarter
These lessons are in great demand and there is a waiting list. However turn-over is also quite regular so the wait should not be too long.
